South Skye Community Campus is a vibrant, community-led charity dedicated to enhancing and managing sporting and creative facilities for the benefit of our local community. We are excited to welcome new volunteers to our Board of Trustees in the roles of Treasurer and Secretary. These positions are crucial in helping us remain well-managed, transparent, and effective in delivering community benefits.

We value enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn above all else. Previous experience is not essential, as we provide comprehensive training, guidance, and ongoing support to help new trustees feel confident in their responsibilities.

Treasurer Role

Delegated Responsibilities

The Treasurer is entrusted with overseeing the finances of South Skye Community Campus, ensuring our funds are managed responsibly and transparently. While the Board retains overall legal responsibility, the Treasurer’s valuable oversight and advice guide our financial decisions.

Key Functions

  • Provide financial oversight and report to the Board on income, expenditure, and cash flow.
  • Collaborate with staff or bookkeepers to prepare budgets and financial statements.
  • Ensure proper financial controls are in place.
  • Monitor grant conditions, restricted funds, and financial risks.
  • Support the preparation of annual accounts for independent examination.
  • Present financial information clearly and accessibly to trustees.

Skills and Qualities

  • An interest in community development and a willingness to learn about charity finance.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Confidence with numbers or experience managing household or project budgets.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Training and mentoring will be available to support anyone new to financial oversight.

Secretary Role

The Secretary ensures our charity operates in line with legal and governance obligations. This role may be divided into two delegated functions: Company/Charity Secretary and Minute Secretary. Both roles are well-supported, and guidance is provided to help new volunteers understand the processes involved.

Company/Charity Secretary – Delegated Responsibilities

Key Functions

  • Ensure statutory reporting is completed, including OSCR annual returns and Companies House filings (if applicable).
  • Maintain governance documents, registers, and official records.
  • Support compliance with the charity’s constitution and relevant legal duties.
  • Issue meeting notices, agendas, and formal communications as required.
  • Advise the Board on governance matters and ensure decisions are properly recorded and implemented.

Minute Secretary – Delegated Responsibilities

This role may be filled by a trustee, volunteer, or staff member.

Key Functions

  • Take accurate minutes of Board and general meetings.
  • Record decisions, actions, and attendance.
  • Circulate draft minutes for review and approval.
  • Maintain the minute book and ensure approved minutes are stored securely.

Skills and Qualities

  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Clear written communication and ability to summarise discussions.
  • Interest in supporting good governance and teamwork.

Training and templates will be provided to help new volunteers carry out these tasks confidently.
